Life in the 1960s

Today
The brands back then were Levi's, hairdo wise it was the Beehive,but for cars it was the Ford Mustang.

Our name brands are Hollister and Abercrombie,but car wise you see many Chevy Cameros and Dodge Chargers.
During this time the Vietnam War was going on and many people thought that we were fighting for nothing while some thought we were.
vs.
Today we are fighting in Iraq and in Pakistan to try to eliminate a group of Muslim extremists(terrorists) most people say we get out of there while some say we should stay there and help them.
Life expectancy was about 69 years
vs.
Today, life expectancy has gone up about 10 years.
Back in the 60's, jobs were severely separated by gender. The best paying job a woman could have was as a nurse or a teacher. Middle class and wealthy men often worked long hours, but their wives were very dependent on them. For both genders, if you were poor or blue collar it was difficult, but much more so for women because the had to work in and out of home.

Today, women and men are eligible for the same jobs, are treated equally.
No one had a personal computer.

Today,everyone has a personal computer that fits in their pocket.
Gas was around 35 cents

Today most phones are wireless and you can take them almost anywhere.

No one had microwaves, but they did have ovens.

Children had simple toys such as sleds, wagons, and dolls.

A McDonald's hamburger was 15 cents

People listened to different music like the Beatles and such.

There was less beefy kids and teens. They weren't beefy because they had probally no or one slow running computer, there were no video games or anything. Kids just had bikes and the outdoors and they were fine.

We have more beefy people because we have all this new advanced games, computers, video games, cell phones, and TVs. Which kids and teens sit around and watch, text, and play all day instead of going out side.
In the 1990s the people had different kinds of style then we have today. Like used to wear bell bottom jeans, tie-die shirts were in the later years. Go-go boots and box-shaped dresses were in the early years. Then people liked to wear craxy prints and highlighter colors.

We all mostly where skinny jeans, cool patterns, one color tee shrits. We also wear Converse and Nike shoes.

Church attendance was very high in the 1960s, at around fifty percent.

A high school graduation was normally the end of your education. Then, you were expected to get a job in the neighborhood. For example, one might repair cars at the gas station, work in the hardware store, or work as a roofer.

Today sixty-two to sixty-five percent of high school graduates go on to college. They do not expect to get a job straight out of high school.
In the 1960's car makers weren't focused on making the car look cool or have special gadgets, they focused on making it sturdy and tough so if it gets in an accident you won't need much repair.

Today cars are filled with voice command, built-in television sets and others. If you were to get on even a slight crash you would need expensive repair on your car.
In 1969, the first man walked on the moon. Back then space travel was a huge thing to watch.

Now a man going up into space or a probe going up isn't as rare anymore.
In the 1960's there wasn't any organized sports for girls.

Today there is WNBA and other professional sports for women. There is also sport teams in schools for girls now.
Back then women didn't do much, they stayed home and cleaned and cooked and especially took care of the kids.

Today women have jobs and have a lot to do around the house to keep the family happy and healthy.
In the 60's RPM tracks for music were used most often and that's pretty much the only music they could listen to besides the radio and that wasn't very popular yet.

Today a lot of people listen to the radio and now we have IPods and Mp3 players and barely anybody have Mp3 players, most people have IPods.
In the 60's people were drafted for the war.

But today people have a choice if they want to go to war or not.

Elvis and The Beatles were poopular in the 1960's.

In the 2000's people listen to Lil Wayne and 50 cent.
In the 1960's TV's were huge blocks.

In the 2000's people have 1inch thick TV's that are 3D.
Kids could smoke and not get in to much trouble.

Today no one under 18 can smoke without getting in to trouble with the law.
Back then T.V.s wre black and white.

Npw T.V.s are color.
Back then planes had propellers.

Now planes have jet engines.
The 60s had smaller communities back then and so they could have more close friends and family, plus they could be able to just walk over to a friends or family easily.

Now the communities are getting larger and larger and you have to text or email or call someone so that you can get in touch with them.
A gallon of gas was only 35 cents.

Now it is anywhere from $3 to $4.
The African Americans had to go to different schools, sit at the back of the room and sit at the back of the bus. They did not have rights.

They are now all created equal and have rights. It has changed a whole lot. We even have an African American President.
Didnt have cell phones,they had big phones that had a big attenea on top.
